Homepage, People

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, March 24 – OBMI celebrated its 50th anniversary yesterday at Hemingways, in what was a very lively party, studded by the who’s who of the architecture industry. Nearly one hundred guests mingled and conversed, exchanging views on the development of Cayman while reflecting on the many buildings the firm has designed and built over the past half-century. Remarks by Bobby Bodden, the well-known and widely respected Caymanian businessman and developer of Governor’s Square, offering a look at the past and advice for the future.

OBMI, the Cayman architecture, and interior design firm, with international offices spread across the globe, has a strong tradition in the Cayman Islands dating back to the late 60s when development and modernization arrived suddenly and dramatically. At the time, OBMI was ideally positioned to help design much of the infrastructure that has since shaped the islands, with an extensive series of local projects under its belt. These include Harquail Theatre, Cayman Islands National Museum, University College, Triple C School, Cayman National Bank, Butterfield House, Citrus Grove, MacDonald Square, Water Authority, The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, Morritts Tortuga Club, Cayman Yacht Club, and Governor’s Square, among other commercial, public, and private residential projects.

OBMI’s designs are well known for being true to their location and purpose not only in Cayman but across the world. “We want this anniversary to mark, more than an anniversary; a reaffirmation of our commitment to Cayman, by continuing to fuel good design that’s useful and respectful to our beautiful natural environment, which we are fortunate enough to call home,” said Tim Peck, Chairman of OBMI.

A firm of well-seasoned masters of vernacular architecture, with a deep expertise designing for the world’s most storied destinations, with international offices spanning the globe, and a local team based in Cayman, including the company’s chairman; OBMI has been responsible for a wide variety of projects in Cayman throughout its rich 82-year history. Over the years it has built a reputation for commitment to sustainability and understanding each client’s unique vision.
