OBMI to Lead Architecture for Rosewood Resort Antigua
OBMI, leading global architects, and Dutch designers, Studio Piet Boon, have been selected to design the Rosewood Resort Antigua and residential community at Half Moon Bay on the Island of Antigua.
The site once housed the 1950s-built Half Moon Bay hotel, one of Antigua’s first hotels, which was frequented by celebrities like Audrey Hepburn and Elton John until the property fell prey to the 1995 hurricane. Now the dazzling beautiful Half Moon Bay site featuring 132 acres of uninhabited land will become the new paradigm in ultra-luxury once again.
OBMI created the master plan for Rosewood Half Moon Bay to feature 47 suites and several Rosewood-branded villas, as well as 10 purchasable luxury estate lots –all of which will be anchored around a 'retail village'.
Further amenities will include tennis courts, pools, spas, and a biodynamic farm, the first for a resort anywhere. There will also be a “funky West Indies bar” on the rocks, to provide a cool social hub for guests, as well as an amphitheater that makes the most of the undulating site to provide an atmospheric outdoor cinema for families.
Bill Green, managing director of Replay Resorts, the property’s developer – said the landscape experience at Half Moon would emulate nature by revolving around the "stewardship of the land".
“When you have a location with this level of beauty, you feel a responsibility to keep the footprint as simple as possible,” says Anderson.
Also paying tribute to the island’s natural surroundings, OBMI’s approach to the architecture for Half Moon Bay lets ‘nature govern the architecture.’ The orientation of the future hotel was designed so that the moment guests walk in, they have a direct view of the spot in the sea where the waves crash every ten seconds. OBMI also designed each resort suite, branded-villa and estate lot with direct views of the staggeringly beautiful bay to provide a world-class experience in an
The new destination, Rosewood Resort Antigua, set to debut in 2021 and is one of 17 Rosewood properties currently under development.
