AIA Miami Design Awards Gala Recap
On Friday, October 27, several OBMI architects gathered to attend the AIA Miami Design Awards Gala held at the historic Olympia Theater. The annual event brought together passionate professionals across firms and industries to celebrate architecture while elevating public consciousness of good design. The program included the recognition of several design award recipients, a silent auction with proceeds going to the AIA Scholarship Fund, the induction of the 2018 Board, as well the acknowledgement of the student and firm of the year.
Among the recognised projects was the Billboard Building in the Miami Design District submitted by Shulman+Assocaites, which received the Honor Award of Excellence for Renovations/Additions. The Billboard Building features magnificent restoration work, as the firm developed a contemporary feel within the existing building design and structure. Another featured project was the Ballast Trail designed by Strang Architecture which received the Merit Award of Excellence for the residential category. The winning design creatively celebrates the cultural, ecological and physical environment of The Florida Keys. Overall, the awarded projects featured designs that were unique and thoughtfully created by local firms.
OBMI architects enjoyed the event as it was an excellent opportunity to discover new design inspiration, network among peers, and reconnect with former professors to discuss current projects and developments within the industry.
