CORAL GABLES, FL (October 1, 2013) – K. Denaye Hinds, Director of Sustainability at OBM International (OBMI), one of the world’s leading international architectural and master planning firms, has been appointed Chair of the USGBC Miami, a branch within the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) South Florida Chapter.

Ms. Hinds was elected by member peers in the green-build community of Miami-Dade County on the evening of July 29, 2013. It was clear they felt Ms. Hinds would be worthy of the leadership post to serve as Chair. “I am personally elated for Denaye. I speak with confidence, knowing that she will make the coming year one of the strongest for the Miami-Dade branch. We look forward to the accomplishments and welcome her to our Board of Directors for USGBC South Florida,” said Lee Cooke, Executive Director of the USGBC South Florida Chapter.

Ms. Hinds, who is originally from Bermuda, joined OBM International in 2011 but has been involved with the USGBC since 2009. In her new role, she will oversee the full operations, programs, and communications of USGBC Miami, working to ensure the organization becomes the top resource in the city for urban sustainability, education, and opportunities. Additionally, Ms. Hinds also serves as the Co-Chair of the Sustainable Tourism Committee for the USGBC South Florida Chapter.

When asked about her newly appointed position with the USGBC, Ms. Hinds responded, “I am honored to have been elected by my peers – leaders within the sustainability sphere in Miami. Along with the USGBC Miami Board, my goal is to ensure our organization becomes the common denominator of the sustainability movement within the City of Miami, providing members and communities with value-added programs to enhance the sustainability and act as a conduit for advancing the way in which we design buildings – bridging the gap and furthering our mission and those of like-minded organizations’ goals for a more sustainable Miami.”
