"The biggest accomplishment I find as a designer is to watch those projects that I was involved in develop, grow, and mature over the years. Projects like The Wave, a large mixed use project in Oman and The Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech, are now part of the daily lives of many people."

Mario Rubio

Associate

Mario understands what makes communities and destinations both livable and sustainable. He gained this valuable insight, along with a healthy dose of design intuition and strong international experience, through his training in urban planning. He’s a participating member of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) and Registered Architect with the Sociedad Colombiana de Arquitectos (SCA).

As the Lead Urban Designer for the Urban Lifestyle design studio, Mario infuses OBMI projects around the world with a strong sense of place – ensuring they reflect the essence of the culture, people, and environment they inhabit. His portfolio includes master plans, private resorts, hotels, conceptual plans, and large-scale hospitality developments.

Mario hails from Colombia, where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Universidad de la Salle in Bogotá, followed by a Master of Urban Design from the University of Miami. He has practiced architecture and design in London, Spain, and Miami, which infuses his work with a truly international perspective. Mario’s projects seamlessly blend site and built form, and his designs for OBMI have won several industry competitions.
