Eye-Catching Design at Spexx Bermuda

After qualifying as an Optometrist in 2012, Wannita Smith returned to Bermuda, and opened a practice called Vision Care.  After five successful years, the business name was officially changed to Spexx Ltd in October 2017. A year later, the new Spexx office opened its doors on the ground floor of The International Center, located on Bermudiana Road.

With a successful practice and continued focus on the visual well-being of the community, Ms. Smith made the decision to completely rebrand and employ the services of an interior designer.

OBMI was selected for the project to not only create a space but an experience at the prominent new location. Senior Interior Designer, Vanessa Bean provided ample design guidance both for interiors but in branding and graphics offering a designer's perspective on the new logo and its colors.  Vanessa also provided insight into various ways to display the products and delivered graphic design services to create various features found in the space.

Ultimately, a modern and open layout was designed for Spexx EyeCare, along with the creation of a welcoming environment for both walk-in customers and optometry patients. The primary inspiration for the colors in the new Spexx logo and for the FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment), was the interior of an eye under the scope.

For the retail space and eye examination waiting area, Vanessa created an environment offering the unique balance of tranquility and visual stimulation. This was achieved through the use of a light colored, “wood like” Luxury Vinyl Tile (LTV), white casework, warm greys, and pops of gold and orange, the vibrant brand colors of Spexx Eyecare.

During their visit, clients are encouraged to take a step back in time and appreciate original eye exam equipment and artifacts, while the graphics in the pre-exam areas were designed to capture the history and evolution of the business. Entering Spexx Eyecare is truly an experience of its own.
