MIAMI (March 30, 2011) – OBM International (OBMI), one of the world’s leading international architectural and master planning firms, has been selected to design the luxurious Pasito Blanco Resort & Spa in the Canary Islands’ Gran Canaria, announced today Doug Kulig, CEO of OBMI.

Recognized for its expertise in architectural design and planning of resort destinations and communities, OBMI will oversee every detail of the project’s design process, from conceptual design to working drawings. A five-star, 160-room world-class hotel, Pasito Blanco will feature a full-service spa, several bars and restaurants, three pools, and a rooftop lounge.

The primary goal for Pasito Blanco is to create a stately and majestic visual impact by allowing the structure to cascade down a hillside and gradually descend to the rocky cliffs at the coastline. Incorporating multiple levels, detached villas, sweeping docks, pools and patios, OBMI will integrate the natural contours of the land, to establish a dynamic flow throughout the entire resort.

Incorporating a strong focus on place-specific architecture, OBMI’s design for Pasito Blanco is one that will respect the islands’ context, culture, and climate. Situated on a gently-sloping cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, OBMI will establish an architectural character that reflects the area’s heritage by following traditional lines, taking advantage of local building materials and utilizing native landscaping. The use of reinterpreted colonial design, local volcanic stones, white walls and wood features, including handcrafted Canarian wooden balconies, will offer the perfect blend of the islands’ historic architectural style and indigenous elements.
