When the Mediterranean Visits The Caribbean
Inspired by a contemporary Mediterranean style and set in the super exclusive gated community of Vista del Mar, OBMI designed this single-family home with striking exteriors, captivating interiors, and a welcoming koi fish pond. The home’s three-story floor plan is spacious and open, with high and airy ceilings, providing the culmination of an impressive atrium. The glass roof bestows abundant light and a view to rival any artwork masterpiece, for guests to enjoy in combination with the panoramic vistas through the floor-to-ceiling windows surrounding each living space.
Traveling between floors, guests are enchanted by the futuristic stair design, which blends metal, wood, and glass for a dramatic floating effect. Grouped together on one floor, each bedroom bathes in generous amounts of natural light with clear views of the canal below. Isolated by design, the home features a private office space, ensuring quiet moments separated from the rest of the house. Another secluded space detached from the family’s everyday activities is a mother-in-law suite, complete with a full bathroom and high ceilings aiming for the sky.
The luxury amenities within the home match well the architectural features, including a built-in modern wine cellar, a theater room, infinity pool, outdoor kitchen, and dining and lounging areas. The exteriors surrounding these modern-day comforts are in local limestone paired with cement and wood accents, providing a durable and low-maintenance façade for the homeowners. The ICF walls provide a wall system of unparalleled comfort, energy efficiency, strength, and noise reduction. To top it off, literally and figuratively, the home’s roof is in clay tile, respecting the Mediterranean tradition, while enjoying the Caribbean breezes.
“There is an immense satisfaction in designing this three-dimensional object that becomes part of the fabric of people’s lives.”
