Veranda is an exclusive seaside resort and residential village at Grace Bay, on the north shore of Providenciales. The area is home to exquisite beaches and a sizeable coral reef that teems with aquatic life. When asked to design a masterplan for this community, OBMI faced a significant challenge. Guests and homeowners invariably want ocean views. But due to site limitations, we could not position all rooms facing the water. What could we do to dial up the desirability of the other views?
Our design team came up with an inspired solution. They created a village centre as a vibrant hub, bringing activities into the common areas. With this animated focal point at the heart, the sea views are less important. The design features the best architectural aspects of the traditional Caribbean vernacular in the context of pedestrian-scaled streets, shaded pathways, and vivid colours. The resort is unique—and uniquely marketable–with a rich sense of place.
